Exquisite Inlay

Inlayed materials are shell (sometimes available in white mother of pearl or in blue abalone), fossilized ivory, water buffalo bone, or bone dust, inserted into water buffalo horn. Horn inlayed with Shell has many variations. Shell inlays begin at 5mm; smaller sizes are decorated with only silver or bone dust. As overall size increases, so will the amount of silver inlays and shell inlays. Larger sizes have the best looking results. This is a hand carved material, originating from a once living being, so there will be slight variances in diameter, color and design. In filling your order, we will select the pair(s) that we feel are the most beautiful, rather than a replica of the image you see on our website. As an organic material, it should not come into contact with water or humidity, as those elements (along with altitude change and climate change) can cause it to warp, crack, or break. Direct Sunlight can also cause warping, cracking, or breaking. Tawapa is not responsible for breaks or cracks in the jewelry that occur after it has arrived and been worn. Please don’t sleep in your jewelry, as it may break. Our jewelry is strong yet not invincible. Airplane cabin pressure, water and non-recommended cleaners may result in the inlay falling away from the horn. We suggest using super glue if inlays should become detached. If you would like to shine up any of the horn, bone, and wood, jojoba oil works great. Because jewelry comes from animals that required water, drying out of jewelry made from these materials does occur. A miniscule dab on a toothbrush or sponge will go a long way. Due to the average size of the animals that provide for our materials and the available surface area on the jewelry, inlayed horn hanging design sizes are limited to 3mm to 12.5mm. None of our jewelry is intended to be worn through a mucous membrane. Nor is it intended to be ingested. We design our jewelry for healed piercings only and not for the process of stretching.
